This collection – 𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 – has been lovingly put together by the craftspeople at Reckless Ericka. We were all seeing visions and dreaming dreams of a brighter future to come.
𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 is a story of a future where borders that divide, brings us together instead.
A future where we have the boldness to pursue our passions.
A future where the world and people reunite.
A future where the power of love, hope and optimism transcends all rules.
𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 is a vision of a woman who has broken out of her restrictive space and she is free. Free to cross borders, free to transcend and travel. There is a continuation of Reckless Ericka’s signature fit and flare silhouette, easy-to-wear wrap kimono-caftan, voluminous shapes, and retro-feminine cuts.
Inspired by the colours of the landscape and undulating topography, the map we have used for our print in 𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 is part of a set of sailing charts, known as the Mao Kun Map (茅坤), purportedly based on the 15th century expeditions of the Indian Ocean by Ming dynasty explorer Admiral Zheng He. This map originates from the 1420s and is the only known cartographic work that mentions “Temasek” (淡马锡) – Singapore’s former name as recognised by the Javanese Majapahit Empire. To chart this map, 2 navigational techniques are used: The first is the Chinese 24-point compass and the second is the “Star Altitude technique where known altitude of selected stars are matched with certain pre-marked altitude line on the reference board to determine the exact position and location of the ship. To achieve this amazing feat, people living along the coasts of the Indian Ocean were roped in to assist with the “Star Altitude navigation technique. The existence of this map just underscores that when we work together, where there is no diversity, we can create something beautiful.
Printed on 100% Cotton, Viscose blend, Organza, there is a beautiful mass of textures and tactile sensations. Digital printing reduces fabric and water wastage in the production process as compared to wet printing. This is also the first time we are using soft and silky Cupro, a plant-based material made from cotton linter, which are soft fibers on the plant which are usually unused. Cupro is 100% natural, hence it is biodegradable. These garments are effortless and easy-to-care for.
Our material has undergone SASO testing, to ensure no harmful chemicals (formaldehyde, azocolorants) have been used, as well as within the limits of pH value, colour fastness, labelling and fibre content.
𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞 is a recklessly spirited collection – it is colourful, fun, adventurous and poetic. We hope you enjoy this collection as much as we do!
