EPISODE 7
ALL ABOUT POCKETS
Pockets have always been more than little fabric compartments sewn into seams. They are symbols of freedom, practicality and ironically, the lack of both.

Pockets go back to thousands of years, no one really knows the exact date that they
were invented. The word “pocket” comes from the Old French word "porque", meaning pouch.
HISTORY OF WOMEN'S POCKETS IN DRESSES
In the 17th century, women’s pockets weren’t part of the dress. They were separate, tied around the waist, hidden beneath layers of fabric because it was worn under their petticoats. It was hardly practical.

In contrast, men had pockets sewn into their garments for easy access. It was functional and a reflection of their independence in public spaces. This highlighted the social inequality of the time.
As silhouettes slimmed down in the 18th and 19th centuries, the tie-on pockets started to bulge and affect the drape of the dress. Women began to use, what we now know as, handbags.

During the 1st and 2nd World War, practical clothing emerged and women’s pockets became necessary.
When you slip your hand into one of ours, it’s a reminder that style should never demand you to sacrifice function.
At Reckless Ericka, we LOVE our pockets and we have it in every outfit.
When you slip your hand into one of ours, it’s a reminder that style should never demand you to sacrifice function.
Our pockets are crafted to blend seamlessly into the garment’s lines, and it is deep enough. Not “just enough for a lipstick”, but enough for a smartphone, keys, and the freedom to leave your home with your hands free.

Honestly, at this point in time, why should we still be surprised when our outfit has pockets? It should be a given.
