THE DUAL BOX PLEAT
One of our most recognisable details is our dual box pleat.

At first glance, it’s just fabric folded back on itself. But across Asia, pleats have always carried meaning — practical, cultural, symbolic.
INDIAN CULTURE
The pleats of the saree are tucked carefully at the waist — giving both movement and dignity, while allowing six yards of fabric to flow around the body.

MALAY CULTURE
The folds of the sarong created ease for daily wear, shifting seamlessly between work, ceremony, and ritual.

KOREAN CULTURE
The pleats in the hanbok skirt gave elegance and fullness.

JAPANESE CULTURE
The hakama’s folds symbolised values — discipline, honour, respect.

So pleats in Asia weren’t just decoration. They shaped how fabric lived on the body.
A box pleat is when two folds of fabric meet to create depth and structure.
At Reckless Ericka, we doubled that idea — folding the box pleat backwards, creating the dual box pleat.

The dual pleat changes everything. They let a garment expand and move with you. They add rhythm to the way fabric flows, and strength to the way it holds its form.
Over the years, this has become one of our signatures.
Because the dual box pleat isn’t just a technique.
It’s our way of carrying history into the present. Form, function, and identity — stitched into every fold.
